UCAN – the United Chamber Advocacy Network and a coalition of 20 state and local business organizations have joined to express the concerns of employers throughout California – that enhanced federal and state benefits are stalling economic recovery by incentivizing job seekers to stay home rather than accept available jobs.
In a letter to Gov. Gavin Newsom (attached), as the State of California is expected to “reopen” when state and local COVID related restrictions are eased, the business groups cited recent employer surveys and government statistics to make the case for immediate policy changes, including the reinstatement of a requirement that job seekers demonstrate they are actively seeking employment in order to receive benefits, which has been suspended since the beginning of COVID.
