Chamber’s Business Agenda Carries Election

The Chamber’s business agenda was approved by voters at both the local and statewide levels in the November 7, 2006 election.

“The election results demonstrate the importance of the business community in Elk Grove and the community’s support of the development of policies that will contribute to the economic vitality of our local economy,” stated Janet Toppenberg, President and CEO of the Elk Grove Chamber.

On the local level, the voters agreed with the Chamber that Pat Hume and Gary Davis will help create City policies that encourage the growth of local jobs and that Elaine Wright and Keith Grueneberg will lead the Elk Grove Community Services District through a critical period of the community’s evolution.  At the state-wide level, voters approved the Chamber-supported infrastructure measures, Propositions 1A through 1E, and rejected the tax-increases proposed by measures 86, 87, 88, 89 and 90.  The new taxes proposed in propositions 86 through 90 would have increased the cost of goods and the costs of doing business in the state.

“We look forward to working with new council members Gary Davis and Pat Hume in the coming years, and to continuing the growth of the Chamber’s advocacy role on behalf of the business community,” stated Toppenberg.
