THINK, SHOP, LIVE ELK GROVE
Why Shop Locally?

In these tough economic times when people are worried about their jobs, their homes and the viability of their businesses, there is something we can all do to help Elk Grove survive and thrive.  And just what is it we can all do?….Shop Elk Grove and support our local economy.

Over 20,000 jobs are made possible locally by Elk Grove businesses – jobs held by Elk Grove residents.  Both property and sales taxes paid by these local businesses support our local, county, state and federal public services.  The exceptional quality of life we enjoy here depends on residents spending their money locally.  Sales taxes directly fund major services such as police, waste disposal, transportation and other critical services provided by the City of Elk Grove.  Shopping locally keeps businesses here, providing jobs and benefiting community, schools and non-profits.

Every dollar you spend locally pays for wages for local employees, these wages are then spent on goods and services locally, and the cycle continues.  More than 75% of new jobs are created by the growth of small businesses, which is why it is essential for our residents to understand the importance of supporting Elk Grove businesses.

If there’s one thing we can all do to make our dollars work for this community, it’s to shop local.  Gas up here before you leave town. Grab a bite to eat in Elk Grove on your way out or home.  Don’t shop on-line, think local.  You’d be surprised what a difference that can make.  Shopping locally for goods and services benefits the entire community.

The Elk Grove Chamber, along with the City of Elk Grove, the Elk Grove Citizen and Frontier Communications, is a major partner in the Think, Shop, Live Elk Grove program which began last year.  The program is designed to increase public awareness of the benefits of local businesses to the community.

Think, Shop, Live Elk Grove is an ongoing effort in Elk Grove, with its latest campaign being Fantastic Fridays (and Saturdays & Sundays).  This program takes place the 2nd weekend of each month.  Businesses and consumers alike can simply visit the website, www.ShopElkGroveCa.com to discover what promotions and incentives are upcoming.

What can a business owner/manager do?

·   Ask yourself, who are your vendors/suppliers – are they local?  If not, reconsider, otherwise the consequences could be the loss of more local businesses and local jobs, which could ultimately mean a loss of business for you.

·      Encourage your customers and clients to support local businesses.  Participate in Fantastic Fridays and other Think, Shop, Live Elk Grove events/campaigns.

·      Remember to shop – locally!

·    Support Chamber Programs and other Chamber Members – The Chamber offers various training programs that will help you gain up-to-date information about managing your business efficiently and effectively.   Attend business mixers, monthly luncheons and other events where you will connect with other local businesses and potential customers.  Utilize the Chamber’s assortment of promotional opportunities through our website, Focus Newsletter, Yearly Business Directory and e-blast programs, to name a few.

The Think, Shop, Live Elk Grove committee continues to work on new programs that will increase consumers awareness about the value of supporting local businesses.

Visit the Chamber’s website often to discover a variety of ways you can help support local businesses.
