Howard Wackman Memorial Scholarship

Howard P. Wackman II was a descendent of early California settlers and a fourth generation farmer.  He was not only active in the Elk Grove community, but he was known throughout the world for his contributions to agriculture.  He was also active in promoting Boys' Baseball League, a deacon of the First Congregational Church, and Past Master of the Elk Grove Masonic Lodge.  He was chairman of the American Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers Advisory Committee and active in numerous local and state agricultural associations.  He served as vice president of the California Farm Bureau Federation and on its board of directors, and as board member and president of the Sacramento County Farm Bureau Association.

Direct contributions to the Howard Wackman Memorial Scholarship fund can be made through the Chamber office or the Elk Grove Community Foundation.

The scholarship is available to students from the local high schools with agriculture programs. Criteria for selection:
> 3.0 grade point average, or better
> Financial need
> Senior graduating the year of the award
> Past and current activities mush show a definite interest in agriculture
> Interest in future career in agriculture

Selection is made by the Education committee in the spring for recognition at the high school awards night event Spotlight on Excellence.

We encourage you to help support the Chamber's scholarship by attending this luncheon or by making a direct contribution to the Howard Wackman Memorial Scholarship at the luncheon, the Chamber office or the Elk Grove Community Foundation.
