As set forth in the Bylaws, the Nominating Committee was charged
with creating a recommended Slate of officers and directors to fill
those vacancies for the coming year as a result of the expiration
of terms of some of the current directors and to select specified
officers for the coming year. This year, four regular director
positions of three years and one of two years were available, as
well as the President-Elect Position. With the selection of
one currently serving board member to fill the President-Elect position,
a one-year term also came open.
The Nominating Committee reviewed the qualifications of several
outstanding Chamber members expressing an interest in serving on
the Board. Chairman of the Committee Francisco Rodriguez
noted that the Committee worked diligently to fulfill its mission
and the slate as recommended will provide the Chamber with an infusion
of new ideas, commitment and knowledge, and reflect the membership
of the Chamber.
The recommended Slate of Officers and Directors for 2007 was disseminated
to the membership immediately following the September Board meeting.
Bylaws Article
4.4.4 provides that additional names of candidates for Chair-Elect
and Directors can be nominated by petition bearing the genuine signatures
of two percent [currently 16] of the voting members of the Chamber.
Such petition shall be filed with the Nominating Committee within
ten (10) days after notice has been given of the names of those
nominated; this year, petitions were due by close of business
on September 29, 2006. If a valid petition
were filed and nominating additional candidates, a mail-in ballot
would have been mailed to all active members at least fifteen (15)
days before the regular November Board meeting for return within
10 days.
No petitions were received by the deadline, and pursuant to the
Bylaws, the Slate is deemed elected at the October Board meeting. |
